He quickly rose to fame with a string of six consecutive successful films, including the blockbuster hits Tholi Prema (1998), Thammudu (1999), Badri (2000), and Kushi (2001). These films cemented his status as a youth icon, carving out a unique fanbase distinct from that of his elder brother, Chiranjeevi.

In 2001, he made history as the first South Indian celebrity to endorse Pepsi. Despite a career dip with several underperforming films, his popularity remained unshaken. Kalyan bounced back with Jalsa (2008), which became the highest-grossing Telugu film of its year, followed by major successes like Gabbar Singh (2012), Attarintiki Daredi (2013), Gopala Gopala (2015), and Bheemla Nayak (2022). His performance in Gabbar Singh earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Notably, Kushi and Attarintiki Daredi set records as the highest-grossing Telugu films of their respective times.

Political Journey
In 2014, Kalyan established the Janasena Party (JSP). While he did not contest the 2014 elections, his strategic campaigning played a crucial role in the TDP-BJP alliance’s victory in Andhra Pradesh. He later championed critical issues, including raising awareness about chronic kidney disease in Uddanam, opposing illegal land acquisition, and protesting unlawful mining in protected forest areas. In the 2019 elections, JSP debuted, securing one MLA seat with approximately 6% of the vote share.
Post-election, Kalyan focused on advocating for farmers’ rights, women’s safety, and combating illegal sand mining and land encroachments. In 2023, he embarked on a statewide tour in his customized vehicle, ‘Varahi,’ to engage directly with voters. In 2024, Kalyan forged a successful alliance between JSP, TDP, and BJP, leading to a sweeping victory. JSP won all 21 MLA seats and 2 MP seats it contested, and Kalyan secured the Pithapuram constituency with a margin exceeding 70,000 votes. He was subsequently appointed deputy chief minister.
